Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), located 
in Oyo state, have been protesting the closure of their institution in 
the last eight months. A video has emerged showing Governor Abiola 
Ajimobi rudely addressing the student protesters, because they were

The Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU will begin a warning 
strike from October 2nd. The union disclosed this in a statement signed 
by the Chairman, University of Abuja chapter of ASUU. </div>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“We have tried to dialogue with the Federal Government but they have 
been playing games with us; we will start with a warning strike to show 
them we are not jokers. ASUU has being trying to get the attention of 
the Federal Government to intervene in the academic system of 
universities across Nigeria but it has all been abortive. </blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a><span style="background-color: white;"></span>Consequently,
 ASUU will give a warning strike which will start on Oct. 2nd. The 
strike will last for one week, and if they do not give us listening 
ears, we will start the indefinite strike in November,” the statement 
read.</blockquote>
The academic union has been at loggerheads with the Federal government 
over the non-implementation of its 2009 agreement with the FG.  Among 
the demands of ASUU includes the exclusion of Nigerian universities from
 Pension Management Company, non-release of NEEDS Assessment 
Intervention Fund, funding of state universities, payment of earned 
academic allowance and renegotiation of the agreements were part of the 
outstanding issues that have not also been addressed.

Journalist Femi Owolabi shared this update. Few days ago, he revealed 
that students have finally returned to school in Chibok town (Read <a href="http://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2016/07/years-after-some-schools-in-chibok-town.html">here</a>)
 The school is however not in a good condition. According to him, these 
photos show the state of the Junior Day Secondary School - the only 
school currently functioning in Chibok. <br />

The school which has been neglected for years, serves as a primary 
(morning) and secondary (afternoon) school for the children attending.<br />

In a related development, he however noted that Government Girls' 
Secondary School, where more than 200 girls were abducted in 2014 by 
Boko Haram, is now under construction and is being handled by the 
Nigerian Army Engineer. <br />

The Turkish government has appealed to the Federal government to close 
down the 17 Nigerian-Turkish International Colleges (NTIC) in Nigeria, 
saying they all belong to Fetullah Gulen accused of sponsoring the July 
15th failed military coup in Turkey.<br />

The Turkish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil, disclosed this 
while hosting the vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign 
Affairs, Senator Shehu Sani  yesterday July 28th.<br />

“We have formally and verbally made our demand to the Nigerian 
government through the Foreign Affairs Minister. My country’s Minister 
of Foreign Affairs has spoken to Mr. Geoffrey Onyema on this. We are 
requesting for the close down of all the 17 schools. All the schools in 
Nigeria belong to the Gulen movement and not the Turkish government. 
They are using the schools to recruit followers for terrorism. This is 
threatening the peace in our country as they are using funds they are 
generating in Nigeria for terrorism. Gulen is a terrorist organization 
using rhetoric of dialogue, peace and partnership to deceive people. It 
is being presented as a kind of Muslim missionary but they are abusing 
the religion. They misled the public by putting Turkey in the name of 
their school. We don’t have schools in Nigeria, we have in other 
countries but not in Nigeria. Gulen movement staged a coup and they 
failed. Investigations prior to the coup attempt had revealed that the 
followers of the Gulen group infiltrated into various state structures 
including the police, army and judiciary.”he said

Reacting to the allegations, the spokesperson of the Nigerian Turkish 
International Colleges, Cemal Yigit in a telephone chat with DailyTrust,
  denied the claims made by the ambassador and said it was a deliberate 
attempt by the Turkish government to smear the image of the colleges

“I am not aware of the information but it is possible since that is how 
they do the defamation campaign. It is so unfortunate that the smear 
attack is even reaching Nigeria. Nigeria is a sovereign country and it 
is as if the Turkish Ambassador has the luxury of giving Nigerian 
authorities instructions on the place which employed about 2,000 
Nigerians. Let me say that the NTIC, Nizamiye Hospital, Nigeria Turkish 
Nile University under the First Surat Group of Companies are privately 
invested here by private investors. These groups of companies have 
nothing to do with the Turkish government and they are non-governmental 
and non-political companies. Their responsibility is to the Nigerian 
authorities.  The schools and hospitals are open; there is no way they 
could be closed. This is just misinformation disseminated by the Turkish
 Ambassador to Nigeria.”</blockquote>

Oyo State government says 17 schools in the state that were shut down 
last month after they staged a protest, will only be re-opened when the 
students, management and principals of the affected schools tender an 
apology to the state government.<br />

In a statement released by the Oyo state communication team yesterday 
July 11th, the state government insisted that an apology from the 
schools that partook in a violent protest on June 6th, must be tendered 
before their schools can be re-opened.<br />

<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="more"></a>The Deputy Governor of the state, Moses Alake Adeyemo, said this at a press briefing, in Ibadan the state capital yesterday.<br />

principals, management and students showed penitence in form of letters

Some public secondary school students in the state had embarked on a 
protest following alleged plans by the state government to privatize 
public schools. The protesting students and teachers alleged that such 
moves would only make the state government increase school fees and also
 lay off some teachers. The state government immediately denied the 
claims, saying the plan is to get private bodies that will manage the 
schools and see to the proper running of the school.
