Billions of people lined the streets and tuned into the TV to watch Prince William and Kate Middleton wed in 2011.
And it seems the iconic royal couple only have misty eyes for each other, as world renowned photographer Mario Testino has revealed.
Mario, 59, who has earned his reputation as a highly sought after fashion photographer, has spoken out about the true show of affection he witnessed between the pair when taking their official engagement photographs in 2010.
Mario, who was personally selected by Diana
Princess of Wales for her shoot with Vanity Fair magazine in 1997, has
opened up about the moment of 'spontaneous emotion' he captured for the
royal couples infamous engagement photos.
In an interview with Vogue the photographer favoured by the royals said he worked for two hours to get the perfect picture, but he still wasn't satisfied: 'I waited a long time, an hour or two, to make that picture perfect'
He continued: 'But I wasn't totally satisfied. Then, when I'd finished the shoot, they were about to leave and they suddenly hugged in front of a radiator. I took my camera and that was the picture that ran everywhere – it was spontaneous emotion … you could see they were completely in love'
Mario, who was also
commissioned to take Prince William's portrait for his 21st birthday,
said he never questioned the honesty of the romance between the pair.
He said after meeting the
couple in 2008, he could tell it was a matter of time before they tied
the knot, he said: '[William was] in love ... I knew they would stay
together.'
Mario was awarded an honorary OBE on January 14, for his services to photography and charity. He has shot for Vogue, Vanity Fair and a large number of luxury fashion houses, and was personally selected by supermodel Kate Moss to take the pictures at her wedding to Jamie Hince in July 2011.
