Human Rights lawyer, Bamidele
Aturu has passed on. Mr Aturu
passed on today after an undisclosed illness at the age of 49. The late
lawyer was one of the founding members of Democratic Alternative; a
political group dedicated
to holding those in power accountable to the governed.
The late activist during his NYSC days was bold enough to refuse to shake the
hand of a military administrator of Niger State, Col. Lawan Gwadabe in 1988
during his NYSC passing out parade, saying the military had caused great
harm to the democratic aspirations of Nigerians.
Mr Aturu was also nominated as a member of the ongoing
National Conference, but refused to be part of it, arguing that the conference
was designed to achieve nothing. May his soul rest in peace.
