As Lady Mary in Downton Abbey she’s
used to evenings spent in her finery around the dinner table but
Michelle Dockery was in for an altogether different activity when she
made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
The 31-year-old was persuaded to play a game of ‘antler ring toss’ by the US chat show host, with both donning a huge pair of antlers as they competed against each other.
Michelle was forced to cover up her stunning strapless jumpsuit for the game, with the show also seeing her tease US audiences about the new series of Downton.
Michelle looked gorgeous in a strapless jumpsuit, nipped in at the waist with a wide black belt for the show which she taped on Tuesday evening.
The piece showed off the actress’ flawless skin and slim figure, with Michelle adding to her height with a pair of simple black pumps.
With no jewellery, the Brit star let her bold outfit shine, while her brunette bob framed her face.
The actress sat down to chat with Fallon about the new series of Downton Abbey, with series four premiering in the US on 5 January on PBS.
While Michelle was keen not to give too much away she did reveal that she ‘got letters, full on bereavement, people sending me their condolences’ when her onscreen husband Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) was killed off at the end of the last series.
While she’s best known for Downton, Michelle was also keen to talk about her new film, Non Stop which co-stars Liam Neeson and Julianne Moore.
It wasn’t all about work talk though as Michelle also gamely took part in the antler ring toss challenge.
Wearing a camouflage jacket over her pretty outfit, Michelle and Jimmy both slipped a pair of the antler helmets on their heads, as well as some safety googles for good measure.
As they were about to get started at seeing who could land the most rings on the other’s helmet, Michelle quipped: ‘Edith and I used to do this when we were children’.
Jimmy was adamant though that he’d never seen Michelle and her onscreen sister engage in such frivolous activity, joking:
‘That never happened in Downton, I don’t remember that, maybe it was in the bonus episode.’
In the end Jimmy’s skills proved too much for Michelle as she giggled her way through the game, only landing one ring to Jimmy’s three.
As well as Late Night, Michelle joined other cast members of the period drama on Good Morning America on Tuesday where she revealed how Mary is coping with Matthew’s death.
'Mary very much reverts back to the kind of cold, icy side again, inevitably, because that is what she is going through,' Michelle said on the show.
'She needs to move on and so there are new suitors,'
Adding: 'There's one or two ... or three. She's adjusting really, and that is what the fourth series is about for Mary is moving on.'
Meanwhile creator Julian Fellowes hinted that there could be more character deaths to come.
'I'm afraid if they're never going to come back, it's the grim reaper. There's no other answer,' he said.
'I'm afraid he had to breathe his last. We're very sorry, but that was the way it had to be.'
